The main difference between EAF and SAF lies in the working principle and heating method.
The DC SAF provided by submerged arc furnace manufacturer Sanrui, is mainly used for ore smelting and metal extraction, while the DC EAF is used in fields such as metal smelting and scrap metal recycling.
They use electric arcs and high temperatures to achieve the purpose of smelting and smelting during the smelting process, but the specific working principles and applications are slightly different.
An electric furnace that uses the high temperature (about 1600-1800℃) generated by the electrode arc to melt ores and metals. It generates an arc between the electrode and the charge, so that the arc melts the charge at high temperature, thereby smelting.
Also known as arc furnace or resistance furnace. It is an industrial electric furnace with huge power consumption. Its working principle is to continuously generate instantaneous short-circuit current, release the arc to generate high temperature, which is used to heat and melt the charge.
The heating principles of SAF Furnace and EAF Furnace are similar, but the heating method of submerged arc furnaces is mainly deep "submerged arc" heating, while electric arc furnaces is surface "arc starting". Submerged arc furnace manufacturers mainly use the chemical reaction temperature of slag for smelting, usually through coke combustion or other reducing agents to provide heat. The temperature inside the submerged arc furnace can reach more than 1500℃.
The steelmaking electric arc furnace has greater process flexibility than other steelmaking furnaces, can effectively remove impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus, the furnace temperature is easy to control, the equipment occupies a small area, and is suitable for the smelting of high-quality alloy steel.
Its working characteristics are the use of carbon or magnesium refractory materials as furnace linings and the use of self-training electrodes. The electrode is inserted into the charge for submerged arc operation, using the energy of the arc and the current passing through the charge, and the energy generated by the resistance of the charge to melt the metal, adding materials one after another, and intermittently tapping iron slag, a kind of industrial electric furnace with continuous operation.
EAF: Mainly used for recycling scrap metals, producing steel, aluminum and other metal materials, and can accurately control temperature and chemical composition.
SAF: Commonly used for smelting ferroalloys, silicon alloys, manganese alloys, etc., suitable for processing ores and raw materials.
The above is the difference between EAF and SAF, which is mainly reflected in some differences in working principles, furnace reactions and application fields. If you have any questions or needs about smelting furnaces, please feel free to contact us.
