Ladle refining furnace technology is a steelmaking process that further refines molten steel melted in primary furnaces (such as electric arc furnaces, open hearth furnaces, and converters).
This process is usually carried out under vacuum, inert atmosphere, or controlled atmosphere, with the purpose of deoxidation, desulfurization, and removal of impurities to improve the quality of steel.
The LF refining furnaces can adjust the temperature of molten steel, perform process buffering, and meet the needs of continuous production.
Vacuum degassing furnace (VOD):
By smelting under vacuum conditions, gases (such as hydrogen, nitrogen, etc.) and impurities are removed from molten steel, which is suitable for the production of high-quality stainless steel.
Gas reduction process furnace (AOD):
Use oxygen and inert gas to jointly adjust the furnace atmosphere to remove harmful elements such as sulfur and phosphorus in molten steel, which is suitable for the production of high-alloy steel.
Bottom blowing refining (such as LF furnace):
The refining of molten steel is promoted by blowing inert gas (argon, etc.) from the bottom, which is suitable for many types of steel.
1). Molten Steel Transfer: Transfer the molten steel obtained from the blast furnace or electric arc furnace to the LRF, usually using hot metal cans.
2). Charge: Add alloys and deoxidizers (such as aluminum, silicon) to adjust the chemical composition of the molten steel.
3). Degassing & Refining:
In VOD, adjust the vacuum degree in the furnace to promote the escape of gas.
In AOD, control the content of each element in the molten steel by adjusting the flow of inert gas and oxygen.
4). Temperature Control: Real-time monitoring and adjustment of temperature are required during the refining process to ensure the smooth progress of the chemical reaction.
5). Sampling & Analysis: Regular sampling and analysis of the molten steel composition, and further adjustments are made based on the results.
6). Casting: After refining, the molten steel is poured into a mold for subsequent processing.

Precise control of composition: Ability to precisely adjust alloy composition to meet the requirements of different steel grades.
Economical and efficient: Ability to reduce costs by reusing charge and heat recovery.
