Submerged arc furnace direct cooling type electrode copper tile is an extremely important conductive component in the production of ferroalloys in the metallurgical industry. It is cast from ≥99.9% pure copper in one time, with a water cooling channel cast in the copper tile, and heat dissipation fins on the inner wall of the channel. The advantages are large water cooling area, good cooling effect, not easy to scale, low power consumption, less continuous electric sparks, not easy to leak, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, easy to repair, easy to replace and install, and long service life.

The new type of direct-cooling electrode copper tile developed by the Anshan Thermal Energy Research Institute of the Ministry of Metallurgy was installed and used on two 6300kVA low smoke hoods and closed carbon-chromite ore furnaces of the fifth branch of the Liaoyang Ferroalloy Plant in April 1987 with the support and cooperation of the plant. It has been used for more than 4 years and has achieved good results.
It passed the technical appraisal of the Ministry of Metallurgy on January 15, 1992.
The experts at the meeting discussed and evaluated carefully. They believed that this technology was the first in China and reached the following consensus:
① The new copper tile eliminated the water-cooled copper tube. Pure copper was directly cast into the water-cooling channel, which has a large water-cooling area, is not easy to scale, and has a good cooling effect. Thus, the resistance is reduced and the heat loss is reduced.
② The SAF copper tile adopts a new structure and eliminates the bolt connection. The occurrence of power outages and production stoppages caused by short-circuit sparks caused by copper tiles being leaked is reduced.
③ The copper tile material is of high purity and high density, and the weight of the copper tile produced is more than 25% lighter than the old one.
④ The copper tile has high welding performance and can be repaired and used, overcoming the disadvantage of the old copper tile being scrapped at one time.
⑤ The application of new direct cooling copper tiles reduces the hot shutdown time and improves the operation rate of the submerged arc furnace. The effect of energy saving and increased production is very obvious. In the past four years, the factory has obtained direct and indirect economic benefits of more than 3 million yuan by using new copper tiles.
⑥ The service life of direct cooling copper tiles is 6 to 10 times longer than that of old ones.
