There are some important differences between AC vs DC electric arc furnace in their applications.
AC electric arc furnace use three electrodes to distribute energy, while DC electric arc furnace use only one electrode.
DC melting furnaces generally perform better than AC furnaces, but may face difficulties in foamy slag control. In addition, AC furnaces do not have partial arc phenomenon and the arc length is shorter than DC melting furnaces.
AC furnaces: Usually used to melt bulk metals such as steel and aluminum, they melt faster, but their energy consumption and arc stability are slightly inferior to DC arc furnaces.
DC furnaces: They are more efficient when melting certain specific metals (such as high-alloy steel, recycled metals, etc.), and the arc is stable, which can effectively improve productivity.
AC Electric arc furnace: Due to the periodic change of the arc, its arc length and temperature fluctuate greatly, which is suitable for applications that require strong heat.
DC Electric arc furnace: The arc is more stable and the temperature control is more precise, which is suitable for situations where higher melting temperature requirements are required.
AC industrial furnace: more commonly used in traditional steel production and large-scale casting because of its relatively low cost.
DC industrial furnace: suitable for refining and special alloy production, such as high-purity metals and precious metals.
AC Electric arc furnaces: relatively simple equipment, low maintenance cost, but its power demand may increase operating costs.
DC Electric arc furnaces: more complex equipment, involving more control technology, higher initial investment, but in the long run can save energy and improve product quality.
AC melting furnace: may generate more electromagnetic interference and noise, and has a greater impact on the environment.
DC melting furnace: has relatively less electromagnetic interference and is generally regarded as a more environmentally friendly option.
AC electric arc furnace: widely used in conventional steel production and aluminum alloy smelting.
Steelmaking DC electric arc furnace: increasingly used for high-end refining, such as high-alloy steel and recycling of lithium battery materials.
Overall, the choice of AC vs DC electric arc furnace depends on specific production needs, process requirements, cost-effectiveness and environmental considerations.
