Submerged arc furnace electrode pastes, also known as self-heating electrode, is a conductive material used in electric furnace equipment such as ferroalloy furnace and calcium carbide furnace. It can withstand high temperatures and has a small thermal expansion coefficient.
Since the electrode paste is baked by the heat in the submerged arc furnaces, the electrode consumption rate and the baking rate are matched, which is the key to the use of the electrode paste.
The electrode pastes formula of Sanrui Electric Furnace can withstand the typical harsh thermal shock conditions under high-load submerged arc furnace operating conditions, and can reduce the risk of hard breakage or U-turn.
The self-heating electrode is loaded into the electrode barrel installed on the submerged arc furnaces, and it is self-coked and sintered into an electrode. It can be used continuously, and can be extended and sintered while being used.
The raw materials for making electrode pastes are anthracite, coke and asphalt, etc. Their particle size composition uses smaller particles, and those larger than 20mm should be less than 20%. The softening point of asphalt is required to be 55-70 degrees. Raw paste is not conductive.
Electrode pastes can be divided into standard paste and closed paste according to the scope of use.
* Standard paste: used for open calcium carbide furnaces. This electrode paste uses ordinary calcined anthracite and metallurgical coke as the main raw materials and medium-temperature asphalt as the binder. It has the characteristics of high ash content, high resistivity, slow sintering speed, but low price.
* Closed paste: used for closed submerged arc furnaces. The closed furnace surface of this smelting furnace can recycle coal gas and improve working conditions. It requires self-trained electrodes to have good sintering performance.
Submerged arc furnace electrode pastes generally uses ordinary calcined anthracite, artificial graphite, and petroleum coke as the main raw materials. At the same time, a certain amount of coal tar is added to the coal tar to reduce the softening point of the binder. It has the characteristics of good electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, low ash content, fast sintering speed, and high price.
As a kind of carbon material, the production process of self-trained electrode paste is similar to that of other carbon material preparation processes. It mainly consists of raw material calcination, crushing, screening, grinding, kneading and molding. Electrode paste is the raw material of self-baking electrode. Its baking stage is carried out in the operation of the SAF, so its production process does not include baking and subsequent graphitization process.
At present, the raw material formula of electrode paste production is mostly based on residual anode, anthracite, graphite fragments, petroleum coke, and asphalt coke as raw materials, and asphalt and coal tar as binders for production.
According to research, according to the requirement that the electrode should have good conductivity, the lower the ash content in the electrode pastes, the better, it should be lower than 10% (after application development, the ash content is currently no more than 4%), and the moisture in the furnace electrode paste should be less than 1%. In order to ensure the mechanical strength of the electrode after sintering, the self-heating electrode should have a suitable ratio and particle size composition, and its volatile content is more important. Experiments have shown that the volatile content is about 13-19% is more appropriate.
