Arc furnace is a common metallurgical equipment, widely used in steel, nonferrous metals and other industries. AC arc furnace and DC arc furnace are two common types of arc furnaces. This article will introduce the principles and working processes of AC arc furnace and DC arc furnace respectively.
AC arc furnace is a device that uses electric arc heating, and its working principle is based on the generation of arc and the conversion of electric energy.
1. Arc Generation AC arc furnace heats the workpiece by generating an arc between electrodes. During the arc generation process, the gas between the two electrodes is ionized to form plasma and generate high temperature. The current generated when the electrodes are in contact passes through the plasma formed by the gas to form an arc.
2. Electric Energy Conversion The operating frequency of the AC arc furnace is 50Hz, and the AC voltage is converted by a high-frequency transformer step-down and a rectifier. The AC power supply increases the voltage through a transformer, and then converts the AC power into DC power through a rectifier. Direct current provides energy for the arc, causing it to generate high temperature.
3. Working process
In an AC arc furnace, the workpiece is usually a metal material, such as steel, aluminum alloy, etc. The workpiece is placed in the furnace, and current is introduced through the electrode to form an arc. The high temperature of the arc heats the workpiece to the required temperature. At the same time, the arc furnace is usually equipped with a temperature control system, which can adjust the heating temperature as needed.
The DC arc furnace is also a device that uses arc heating. Its principle is somewhat different from that of the AC arc furnace.
1. Arc generation The arc generation process of the DC arc furnace is similar to that of the AC arc furnace. Through the contact between the electrodes, the current passes through the plasma formed by the gas to generate an arc.
2. Power conversion The power conversion process of the DC arc furnace is different from that of the AC arc furnace. The DC arc furnace is powered by a DC power supply, and there is no need to convert AC to DC. The DC power supply provides energy for the arc, causing it to generate high temperature.
3. Working process The working process of DC arc furnace is similar to that of AC arc furnace. The workpiece is placed in the furnace, and DC current is introduced through the electrode to form an arc. The high temperature of the arc heats the workpiece to the required temperature. DC arc furnaces are usually also equipped with a temperature control system to adjust the heating temperature as needed.
AC arc furnace and DC arc furnace are two common types of arc furnaces, and their working principles and working processes are somewhat different. AC arc furnace converts AC power into DC power and uses the high temperature of the arc to heat the workpiece. DC arc furnace is directly powered by DC power without the need for power conversion. Both types of arc furnaces can meet the needs of different working conditions and have broad application prospects.
