Submerged arc furnace is a high-temperature metal smelting equipment used for smelting metals. It is widely used for ore heating and smelting. It mainly heats and melts ore by converting electrical energy into thermal energy. Its working principle involves many aspects, and the following is a detailed introduction.
The submerged arc furnace uses electrical energy to generate high temperature. When the current passes through the electrode and the charge, a large amount of heat is generated due to resistance, so that the temperature in the furnace reaches the high temperature required for smelting.
The charge (such as ore, reducing agent, etc.) is added from the top of the smelting furnace, gradually descends and is heated. Under high temperature, the metal oxides in the ore are reduced by the reducing agent to form metal and slag.
In a high temperature environment, the reducing agent (such as coke) reacts with the metal oxides in the ore to produce metal and gas by-products. For example, iron ore is reduced to produce iron and carbon monoxide.
The molten metal and slag are layered due to different densities. The metal is deposited at the bottom of the electric furnace, and the slag floats on the top, which is convenient for separate discharge.
After smelting, the metal and slag are discharged through different outlets, and the metal can be further refined or cast.
The waste gas generated during the metal smelting process needs to be dusted and purified to reduce environmental pollution.

Iron outlet and slag outlet: discharge metal and slag respectively.

Oil-fired electric furnaces are widely used in the smelting of metals such as ferroalloys, ferrosilicon, and ferromanganese, and are also used in the production of chemical products such as calcium carbide and yellow phosphorus.
In short, the submerged arc furnace converts electrical energy into thermal energy, heats and melts the charge, separates the metal and slag through chemical reactions, and finally obtains the desired metal product. It has been widely demanded and continuously optimized in the metal smelting and steel casting industries.
